Blepharitis

Blepharitis or Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is caused by blocked tear glands in the eyelids that normally secrete a substance that mixes with the tears to help them spread across the eye and stop them drying out.

Treatment involves cleaning the eyelids to remove lipids and debris that can block the Meibomian glands and using lubricants followed by heat and massage to help the glands secrete more liquid.

Artificial lubricants can also be suggested to use throughout the day.
