Diabetes

It is predicted that 30% of the Australian population over 50 will be diagnosed as diabetic by 2020.
Diabetes can lead to changes in your eyes and it is important as a minimum to have retinal photographs taken of your eyes once a year.

The retina in the eye is the only part of your body where we can see your blood vessels. By checking the health of these vessels it mirrors what is happening elsewhere in the body. Diabetes can cause change to these blood vessel walls which makes them weaker and more likely to leak.

Digital Retinal Imaging and the advanced 3D OCT allows us to zoom in on the blood vessels and look underneath the retina. Digital retinal imaging and the advanced 3D OCT allows us to zoom in on the blood vessels and look underneath the retina.
