Macular Degeneration

Macular Degeneration is the leading course of blindness in Australia.  It is  caused by destructive changes in the macula – the light sensitive tissue at the back of the eye which is responsible for central vision.

Symptoms include difficulty seeing faces, street signs and small print and distortion of straight lines or blobs in your vision.

Risk factors include:

  • being older than 50
  • Smoker/UV exposure
  • BP and all diabetes
  • Family history

Consult your optometrist who will conduct an OCT to determine if you have Age related Macular Degeneration or if you are at risk.
